Marriage and Med School

I got this article from a spouse who's 2 semesters ahead of us and whose husband is currently preparing to take Step 1 of the USMLE. We'll be there about a year from now. This article is about dating a medical school student, but it is very similar to being married to one. I encourage all of you to read it, it's not long, and it really explains my life right now. I only see a few differences between Kyle and the "student" in this article. First, Kyle doesn't worry about failing. He's always done really well. Also, he hasn't become a hypochondriac and or a germaphobe. I think I'm the one who has been freaked out by the things he's learned.

She's Baaaaack

On Sunday my mom will arrive in Dominica for the second time. She was here last February shortly after we had arrived to the island ourselves. At that point I still didn't know the basics, like where to get bread and buy meat, but now I feel like I have tackled that aspect of life here and I will now be able to show her the island. I made a calender of things for us to do over the 2 1/2 weeks she'll be here and more trips are in the works. I'm very excited for my mom to come and the suitcases of goodies she'll be bringing for us.

A Valentine's Day that "Rocked"

One of the best restaurants on the island, both for food and scenery, is Red Rock. I've been here many times, but this was only my 2nd time with Kyle. They are normally closed on Monday's, but Kyle convinced them to open up for Valentine's Day. I'm so glad they decided to because this was the best Valentine's Day I've ever had.

Our perfect little table...the sound of the waves, the breeze of the ocean, and a secluded table for my valentine and me.

Sail Away With Me

Last weekend Kyle and I got the opportunity to take a sunset cruise on a catamaran with about 40 other students and friends. We thought about it for about 1.5 seconds and decided it would be a fantastic idea and I must say...we were right!

Somewhere over the rainbow...you'll find our home

Hanging out on the open seas with my love and best friend. Nothing better!

Our good pals, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips
(Kyle and Taylor)

Taylor and I

We pulled right into a cove and jumped into the water. Very refreshing!

I even got Kyle to jump in!

Kyle and Kyle

Aaaaaah, the most beautiful scene in the world.
The sunsets are so beautiful here and I never get sick of them.

These are the moments when I have to pinch myself and ask, "Do we really live here?". It was absolutely amazing. I'm already planning our next trip out to sea.

The Real Housewives

I'm sure you've all heard of the reality TV show The Real Housewives. They have used this brand in showing how wealthy, and somewhat crazy, women from NYC, Atlanta, New Jersey, Beverly Hills, as well as a few other places across the country live their life. Well, we may not be wealthy, but we are all somewhat crazy. I mean we do live on an island while our husbands go to medical school and we experience some unique events on a daily basis. We like to call ourselves...

THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF DOMINICA

Those women from the other shows wouldn't know what hit them when they got off the plane here in Dominica. No Nordstrom, Saks, fancy restaurants, 5 star hotels. We are truly living and having the time of our lives doing it.
These ladies are "real housewives" if I've ever seen one.

(don't mind the crazy local guy in the middle. that's just Francis. he's, and I quote, "the black Michael Jackson". good to know...now get me away from him!

Test Day = Best Day

On Monday Kyle had his first big exam of the semester. Those are always the scariest, but he still did great! (I'm such a proud wife) I always make us breakfast. This time it was banana pancakes, bacon, and coffee. After his exam we usually go out to lunch and then hang out around here. This time I thought it would be fun to move the party elsewhere...Batibou Beach. I put together a trip for 14 students and me. We took 15 people, 2 vans, beach games, 5 cases of beer, and 2 dozen chocolate chip cookies, made by yours truly. The students all had a blast. It was great to see them so excited to be outdoors and run free on the beach, which we had completely to ourselves. Best of all, I got a day with Kyle. Test days are the best! We actually get to hang out without the stress of school weighing on his mind. I cherish every hour of test days.

The guys played a lot of games and I watched contently from my towel as I enjoyed the sea breeze. They played football, corn hole, and bocce ball (with coconuts). So inventive!

Days until the next test day...29 and counting!
